More about Aquatic Autumn:

We became concerned about swimming skills and experience in the UK following research by the National Water Safety Forum earlier this year that found around 321 people die in the UK by drowning in 2015. Following this, the organisation urged more people to learn to swim.

We wanted to know more about UK parents' attitudes towards taking their children swimming so we recently ran a survey of our own communicating with 2,100 parents of children under the age of six, to find out more about parents attitudes towards children's swimming in the UK.

Despite the worrying findings of the National Water Safety Forum's survey, our research found that 49% of parents surveyed admitted to not teaching their children to swim despite 99 % of those surveyed agreeing that being able to swim as a child was a vital skill.

The outcome?

Following our swimming survey we've developed an e-book which offers help, advice, tips, hints and experiences for parents and carers provided by well-known parenting bloggers and leading swim schools from across the UK.

If you'd like to find out more about the survey and what barriers are preventing parents from taking their little ones swimming, or if you are interested in learning some hints and tips for taking your own child swimming, you can check out our e-book here:

Whatever your child's level of experience in the water, it is essential that they have the appropriate swimwear and accessories to ensure that both you and them have a positive swimming experience.

We are swimming experts so we know a thing or two about baby swimming and what little ones need in the water and we've set up Baby Swiming Shop to specialise in high quality swimwear and accessories specifically designed for babies and young children.

I absolutley love to swim so because of my positive attitude towards it my 3 year old loves it. I have taken her swimming from a few weeks old regularly and now shes a brilliant swimmer for her age. Now I have to start again with her baby brother. I completely agree that a child learning to swim is vital and having the correct swim wear and tools for teaching a child to swim is equally important. This was a very interesting read and hopefully will make more parents realise the importance of their child being able to swim. It’s alarming to see such a huge percentage of parents not teaching their child to swim despite admitting that it’s a vital skill!

I believe that learning to swim is one of the most important things for kids to learn. Both my children have been swimming since babies & to me it’s worth every penny.

This is a nice initiative, we find it so hard to get our kids motivated when it gets colder weather they just dont want to go to the pool but Im going to make more of an effort as it is so important for them to know how to swim when they are little

I love this campaign! I’m a massive fan of any campaigns that promote health or safety related topics with children. So will happily share this.

We’ve been taking our son swimming since he was 11wks old as I myself am not a confident swimmer and have a fear of him not being able to look after himself in and around water. He’s now 17m old and loves going swimming. Ok so he still doesn’t like going underwater so much, but he does love being in the water, splashing and jumping in! Great post. Thanks!

Great info guys. I’d love to take my kids swimming more but being a single parent makes it difficult to get into the pool with both of them but soon as I get a babysitter, I’m gonna sign my 4yr old up for lessons at our local pool
